I saw an early screening of Superman last week and I have to say I wasn’t all that impressed. As some of you may have seen I posted a rant on here about the casting of Superman and Lois Lane. I thought that the superman was too boyish and Lois lane was too young. Well turns out I was right and wrong. First the part I was wrong about. Well kind of wrong. Brandon Routh pulls it of better then I expected. He’s still a bit too boyish and i know this is silly but I don’t think superman should have a narrow face, however he does a decent job. Now On to Lois Lane. OyIm sorry but a 23 year old Lois? That’s the actresses age not the characters but it shows in the character. Lois is a women, a broad, a dame. This Lois is a girl. And a not very deep or interesting girl. She really drags down the picture.
Ok well the rest of the film was a bit of a mess as well. I really like Bryan Singer but I just dont think he pulled it off this time. The pace is slow, the theme is a bit muddled and although I like this new “troubled” superhero like spiderman and the recent batman i felt they were stretching a bit to make superman that way.
Now, not to be too negative. I liked it much better then xmen3 which was dreadful and even though I’m being negative here I have to admit over all I liked it. Didnt love it but liked it. I even cried twice although that’s not hard for me in a movie:) I loved that he paid homage to the first couple of superman movies and even used much of John Williams score. There were also shot that were almost completely taken from the first. I admire Singer for paying his respects while trying to bring it to a new place.
So that my view, not that you asked:) Oh and one more thing the Jimmy Olsen SUCKED. He’s obviously from improv comedy and he had this smug arent i funny and above this take on every line. He was actually worse then Kate Bosworth. Ok now I’m done ranting:)
